Introduction
If you need to convert an .ini file into a .set file in MT5, this guide will take you step-by-step through the process. This might be necessary if, for example, you downloaded the .ini file but were unable to obtain the .set file for some reason, such as the strategy being removed from the leaderboard.
1. Download the .ini File from the Leaderboard
Before converting, make sure you have the .ini file:
- Go to the leaderboard in your platform.
- Find the strategy you want and click to download the .ini file.
If the .set file is not available, you can convert the .ini file manually by following these steps.
2. Access Your VPS and Open the MT5 Terminal
- Go to your VPS (Virtual Private Server).
- Open any MT5 terminal. It doesn’t matter which one, as long as it has access to Titan.
- Once inside the terminal, click View in the top-left corner.
- Select Strategy Tester from the dropdown. If it doesn’t open, click it again to reopen the window.
3. Ensure Titan is Installed in the Terminal
To properly load the strategy, you must have the correct version of Titan installed:
- Click File → Open Data Folder.
- In the new window, go to MQL5 → Experts → Advisors.
- Copy the correct version of Titan (e.g., Titan X 23.04).
- If you're unsure, download the correct Titan version corresponding to the strategy's creation.
- Paste the Titan version into the Advisors folder.
- Right-click inside the folder and select Refresh. This will update your terminal to include the newly installed Titan version.
4. Load the Strategy in Strategy Tester
- In the Strategy Tester, under Expert, select the newly installed version of Titan.
- Go to Inputs and load the .ini file:
- Click the gear icon, then Load Settings.
- Navigate to where the .ini file is saved, select it, and load it.
- The strategy settings (e.g., "Alpari Plug") should now appear under Inputs.
5. Save the Strategy as a .set File
- Once the strategy is loaded, right-click in the Inputs tab.
- Select Save.
- Save the file with the name of the strategy (e.g., Alpari Plug) or any name you prefer. The file will be saved as a .set file.
Conclusion
You’ve now successfully converted an .ini file into a .set file. This process ensures that you can preserve and reapply strategy settings even if the .set file is no longer available for download from the leaderboard.
